Tried to write a letter; In ink
I've got a piece of paper; But it's Empty Sunday, October 08, 2006
I love weekend visits to my grandparents! Haha. I sound like a Primary Two kid, 'cos that is what my little cousin always says. (: Many of my older cousins started dreading to visit their grandparents since they went to Secondary School, for a reason I still could not understand, although I'm definitely more rebellious than them in some ways. My mother and I went to visit my maternal Grandmother today. I loved her cooking. It's just so delicious! Especially her fried eggs and Chicken herbal soup! Yum yum! Haha. I think I talk about food all the time. I'm such a greedy pig. x) Anyway, my mum decided to go to Hougang Point to shop after dinner, only to find that all the shops were closed. The Mall was almost empty. Only McDonald's, the NTUC, and one or two other shops were still opened. No more KFC, Kopitiam, and all other shops. What happened? Everything seemed to be "For Lease". Never mind. Maybe they are having some mass improvements and renovations on the building. * "Books are the legacies that a great genius leaves to mankind, which are delivered down from generation to generation as presents to the posterity of those who are yet unborn." -Joseph Addison "There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them." -Joseph Brodsky Books! The House of Doctor Dee by Peter Ackroyd is so weird. I think the name Ackroyd is so rare and unique. (: With Doctor John Dee, a real sixteenth-century sorcerer and astrologer, as one of its central figures, the author managed to create a modern tale, a fiction, that is so unusually grappling. Please tell me if I'm using the wrong adjectives. I do have a high tendency of misusing adjectives. Anyway, back to The House of Doctor Dee, I am pretty amused by the Matthew's (the main character) paranoid behaviour, although I admit that I'm not familiar with the setting in London and I'm rather confused by all the road names. xD Haha. I had just finished reading Chapter Two. There is still a long way to go! Yayye! "I did have a chess-board with a little bag of leather for my men: these I would advance from square to square, reminding myself of my own history up to that time. I knew then, as I picked up my ivory pieces and stroked them a little with my forefinger, that monarchs and bishops would be as nothing to one who could predict their movements." - Doctor Dee, The House of Doctor Dee Yes, I love this comparison. Chess! The world is like a chess-board. Life is like playing chess. It involves sacrifices to achieve what you want. Life is unpredictable and priceless. One wrong move can cost us everything. We should treasure life and play it with careful consideration and not act on pure impulse. (: I hope to complete this novel by Thursday! Books utterly rock! xinying ploughed through her empty list at 9:58 pm
